The networked port

EUROGATE drives digitalization of port logistics. New 5-G networks on three container terminals secure top-level data transmission. This creates more reliability and new opportunities in automation.

Fast, secure, innovative – the BLG Group meets these three requirements also in the CONTAINER division. Not least thanks to EUROGATE, Europe’s leading shipping company-independent container terminal group, in which BLG holds a 50 percent share. In 2023, EUROGATE established its own 5G networks at three container terminals. In Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven, the networks serve a total area of 5.6 million m2.

Apart from full 5G performance in the public network, they also provide separate frequencies for industrial applications. This means networks which are secure from external access link up general and process control systems and reliably integrate autonomous trucks and port handling equipment. The model project was co-financed by the Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure within the “Digital Trials in Ports” initiative.
