From Neustädter Hafen to the USA

In June, Norlat Shipping Ltd. AS from Norway launched a scheduled breakbulk service from Bremen (pictured above) to US ports on the East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico. The service focuses on bulk general cargo such as forestry and steel products. Neustädter Hafen in Bremen thus remains an important hub for breakbulk traffic to North America.

Contract extended

In February 2022, Frank Dreeke was reappointed as Chairman of the Board of Management of BREMER LAGERHAUS-GESELLSCHAFT -Aktiengesellschaft von 1877- by the Supervisory Board. The Supervisory Board passed the resolution to extend the contract for two years until the end of 2024 unanimously.

56 apprentices and students

started their career path at BLG LOGISTICS in September. Training in one of the 12 apprenticeship professions at BLG opens numerous doors and possibilities for the next generation of logistics professionals. A total of 241 apprentices and dual students were in training at BLG and EUROGATE in 2022.

Modern board structure

BLG’s Supervisory Board and Board of Management have created the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO). In this new position, Matthias Magnor is responsible for the CONTRACT and AUTOMOBILE operating divisions. With this modern Board of Management structure, BLG LOGISTICS is laying important groundwork for the future.

#SuccessDependsOnEverybody

Back on the road again: the members of the Board of Management together with the heads of the operating divisions once again put on a large-scale #SuccessDependsOnEverybody roadshow in 2022 designed to bring the corporate culture and values of the BLG Group to the locations. In total, they organized 62 roadshow events at 47 BLG locations. As many as 9,791 colleagues took the opportunity of meeting directly with the Board of Management.

Port joint venture

May 2022 saw the start of operations of the BLG GLOVIS BHV GmbH joint venture at AutoTerminal Bremerhaven. Hyundai GLOVIS will in the coming years expand BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven into a European hub for its automobile transports between Asia and Europe. At the heart of the joint venture are two fixed shipping berths and a pre-stowage area for vehicles.

Contract logistics restructured

Since October 2022, the CONTRACT Division has consisted of the business units Contract Operations, Customer & Business Development, and Performance Support. With this move, the company has replaced the former division into the business areas industrial and retail logistics. In the future, the 40 locations worldwide will be integrated into a regional structure. This will ensure the BLG team is even closer to customers and is able to operate with even better business acumen.

New locations

The AUTOMOBILE Division has a new site in Bollberg. The CONTRACT Division has opened new locations in Frankfurt-Dietzenbach, Cologne-Porz and Magdeburg.

Under contract for Deutz

To handle new business, BLG’s contract logistics division has opened its first location in Cologne, the headquarters of DEUTZ AG. On an area of 16,500 square meters, the new multifunctional center will handle 180,000 engines per year in the future. A total of 100 colleagues will take care of the logistics.

Harnessing possibilities

BLG LOGISTICS offered 165 seminars, training courses and qualification programs in 2022. As many as 3,479 employees took advantage of these possibilities. In total, 4,364 training days were held.

New partnership

At the end of the year, BLG and DEKRA Germany agreed a strategic partnership between the two companies. Together, BLG and DEKRA will tackle strategic issues and leverage synergies in the areas of digitalization, sustainability and qualification. The partnership will create operational and commercial advantages for both companies.
