CLIMATE ACTION
In the context of our targeted CO2 reduction, BLG LOGISTICS is also testing electric drive systems in heavy goods transport. With this project, we are pressing ahead with our consistent sustainability strategy.
UN Goal
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
Implementation at BLG
By 2030, we aim to have reduced our own greenhouse gas emissions measured in absolute terms against 2018 by at least 30 percent. Over the same period, we want to achieve a 15 percent cut along our supply chain. Supplementary carbon emission offsets will also enable us to become a climate-neutral company by 2030.
Electrification of transport is a key element in implementing the European climate targets. For us as a logistics company, electromobility also harbors great potential when it comes to achieving our sustainability goals. At the end of the reporting year, we therefore started testing electric truck models at our Falkensee logistics site.
Electrically powered trucks are currently more suited for short distances due to the limited battery capacity. The best possibilities for deploying e-trucks in our operations are for interplant transports with standard route plans and assured charging infrastructure. When planning to deploy the environmentally friendly tractor units, various aspects have to be taken into account especially when it comes to implementing the necessary charging infrastructure, such as charging times, charging frequency and charging duration as well as the available power at the potential locations.
The advantages of e-trucks are manifold: not only do they reduce CO2 emissions, but they are also quieter and therefore ensure more comfortable working conditions for our drivers. They also help to reduce particulate matter and noise pollution in their immediate vicinity, which is a major advantage when driving in urban areas. Feedback from the test drivers is also overwhelmingly positive: “The new electric trucks offer a completely new driving experience. There’s no more relaxed way to arrive at your destination!” reports André Lorenz, Fleet Team Coordinator at the Falkensee site.
