AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN Energy
The installation of a further photovoltaic system on the roof of one of our car terminals allows us to generate green electricity and at the same time reduce our carbon footprint.
UN goal
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
Implementation at BLG
Energy management is a central lever for dovetailing economic and environmental effects. In addition to improving energy efficiency, we are also increasingly focusing our climate protection activities on the integration of energy from renewable sources.
Our quest is to make logistics as sustainable as possible. We have taken another step in this direction with the installation of a second photovoltaic system at our Kelheim site. The modules were mounted on the car park roof of the car terminal at the end of 2022. With a generator area of 2,000 square meters and an output of approx. 400 kWp, the new system covers 22.7% of the site’s energy requirement. It thus not only supplies part of the car terminal with green electricity, but for the first time is also able to store power that is surplus to requirements. This is the case particularly at weekends when the car terminal is not operative and therefore little to no power is needed. Together, the three newly installed batteries have a storage capacity of approximately 210 kWh.
The energy generated by the new system is used for example for lighting the terminal and charging electric vehicles. The system supplies 55 wall boxes for charging customer vehicles as well as some 250 charging points for our car and system batteries with self-generated electricity. Rudolf Tischler, Technical Director at the AutoTerminal in Kelheim, is enthusiastic: “The commissioning of the photovoltaic system not only reduces our dependence on energy suppliers, it also ensures a saving of up to 182 metric tons of CO2e.” It is therefore an important building block in our climate strategy and demonstrates our steady progress when it comes to sustainability.
