GENDER EQUALITY

GENDER EQUALITY

One important pillar of social equality is equal opportunities on the labor market. We therefore also promote the entry and development of female specialists in male-dominated occupational fields.

UN goal

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

Bettina Kaynar

Implementation at BLG

We are committed to promoting women in the logistics sector. We have therefore developed special programs and training opportunities designed to further boost the proportion of women in male-dominated jobs.

“I try to be a good role model and explore new avenues in the hope of being able to encourage others to change. After all, you never know until you try.”

Women are still underrepresented in many areas of the logistics industry. Physically demanding jobs in particular are often performed by men – even though many women would be just as capable. Take Bettina Kaynar, for example. She joined BLG in 2017 and completed further training as a warehouse logistics specialist with us, as well as obtaining her forklift driver’s license. Today, she is the first female forklift driver at BLG Cargo Logistics in Neustädter Hafen, Bremen.

What Bettina enjoys most about her job is the variety and the feeling that she is literally getting things moving on a day-to-day basis. And when things at the port occasionally get a little rougher, it only makes the job even more interesting. She is proud to be a trailblazer – even if she hopes this will soon change: “I try to be a good role model and explore new avenues in the hope of being able to encourage others to change. After all, you never know until you try.”

Equal career opportunities for women and men not only opens doors for the skilled employees themselves – we as a company also benefit from breaking the glass ceiling and empowering motivated female colleagues to excel in male-dominated occupational fields. We have therefore been committed to steadily increasing the proportion of women in all areas – from management to Neustädter Hafen.
