Indispensable
With his visit to the port, Chancellor Friedrich Merz underscored the importance of maritime logistics for Germany as a business location, for Europe, and for global trade as a whole. It was a strong signal for BLG and for Bremerhaven as a strategic hub.
In October 2025, BLG LOGISTICS welcomed Chancellor Friedrich Merz to the BLG AutoTerminal and the EUROGATE container terminal in Bremerhaven. Merz used his inaugural visit to the Bremen Senate as an opportunity to see the capabilities of Bremen’s seaports for himself. His focus was on the central role of German seaports for the economy, the energy transition, and security of supply.
“I am impressed by this site’s efficiency. The Port of Bremerhaven is indispensable to global trade and a strategically important site – not only for Germany, but for the European Union as a whole. Our export economy would be unthinkable without efficient ports like Bremerhaven.”
“The Chancellor’s visit sends a strong signal for our site and for the port industry as a whole. Vehicle handling at the BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven is a major driver of value creation and employment – far beyond the region itself.”
The Chancellor was impressed by the site’s efficiency and emphasized Bremerhaven’s strategic importance for global trade and the export economy. High-performance, reliable ports are the backbone of our export-oriented nation. They are a driving force of the energy transition and constitute strategically important infrastructure.
“If we want to keep our ports competitive over the long term, we need reliable, forward-looking investment in port infrastructure. This is the only way we can meet the growing demands of container shipping and the transformation of logistics.”
